- BEFORE you install OS X, do the following:
- Within Windows XP, use PartitionMagic or similar software to shrink your existing partition(s) and create a new partition on your hard drive, of at least 20Gb in size, preferably more. Don’t format it for now, and no need to assign a drive letter. It’s not a problem if you do format it, though.
- Boot up the OS X installer DVD as above.
- Launch Disk utility from the menus at the top of the screen, and click on your new partition in the panel on the left. Use Disk Utility to ‘Erase’ (format) your partition to ‘Mac Extended (journaled)’ and name it something like Leopard. Remember to click ‘Apply’ to make the changes.
- Now, quit Disk Utility and continue to install OS X to your new Leopard partition as detailed in the main guide.
- Wait for the installation to complete, then reboot. The computer will boot into Windows XP – don’t panic! Your new Mac OS X partition is sitting there, ready. It just needs us to add the option to boot from it.
- Download the attached file, CHAIN0 and copy it to the root of your C: drive.
- Using notepad.exe, edit the file C:BOOT.INI and add the following line:
CHAIN0=”Apple Mac OS X 86″
- Now, when you reboot, you should be given the option to boot into either XP or Apple Mac
